Accessibility

Patrons with limited mobility, those with heart or respiratory problems and those that suffer from vertigo, may find access more challenging. However, we do not want anyone to miss out, so if you are in any doubt whatsoever about the venue accessibility, we recommend that you contact the Tattoo Office to discuss your particular requirements.

Wheelchair access

Wheelchair spaces which include the admission of one essential companion are located at the front of Sections 1-4 and 12-17 and at the top of Section 10. Access to the wheelchair areas in Section 1–4 and 12–17 is via a ramp and access to the wheelchair area in Section 10 is by way of an elevator.

Each wheelchair ticket will admit one wheelchair user (who must arrive in and remain in their wheelchair throughout the performance) and one essential companion.

Essential Companion Tickets

Essential Companion tickets are offered to customers requiring additional support to make their attendance at the Tattoo possible. This is available to those with significant, disability-related needs, in excess of what could be reasonably expected of family or friends already accompanying you to the event. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult and so, in most circumstances, do not qualify for a Companion ticket. To discuss your requirements and book any accessible tickets please contact our Box Office on +44(0)131 225 1188.

Accessible seating access

Accessible seating is available in the front row of Sections 12-17 with only 5 steps from ground level.

As the number of seats in the wheelchair and accessible seating areas are limited it may not be possible to sit your whole party together, as such it may be necessary to separate your party. We will however do our best to allocate seating for accompanying relatives or friends as close as possible.

Accessible Vehicle Convoy and Drop Off

This is currently available to book for wheelchair and accessible ticket holders, subject to availability, at the time of booking. In 2026, our Accessible Convoy allowed access for a personal vehicle or taxi to drop off wheelchair and accessible ticket holders on the Castle Esplanade, prior to the Show start. These are able to take place on single Show nights only, meaning there would be no Accessible Convoy on Saturdays and the final Friday. We also are unable to offer convoy access on our Preview Performance. Wheelchair and accessible ticket holders will be contacted by email when further details are confirmed.

Toilets

Accessible toilets are available within the venue on ground level under the stands and beside wheelchair Section 10. A changing places facility is also available just inside the venue entrance.

Modular Changing Place

We have installed a modular changing place toilet at our venue. Supplied and installed by Innova Care Concepts, the unit includes specialist healthcare equipment such as an overhead hoist system.

Low-level ramp access

Low-level seating is easy to access from the Esplanade via ramps. Seating is designed so that wheelchairs are interspersed with essential companion seating alongside.

British Sign Language

Performance dates with a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter are yet to be confirmed for 2027. In 2026, a BSL interpreter was available at two performances with seats in select sections; the live BSL interpreter was visible alongside the action of the live event. Whilst tickets with access to the BSL interpreter are not yet available to book, you can register your interest in purchasing these by email to  tickets@edintattoo.co.uk with the subject  'BSL enquiry'. Customers may wish to use a text to speech or relay service to assist with your telephone booking.

Personal PA System

Available for all performances, anyone wishing to access a Personal PA System (Neckloop Induction Coil for use with hearing aids equipped with a 'T' switch) should contact the Tattoo Box Office for further details.  All equipment is subject to availability.

Personal Audio Description

Anyone requiring Personal Audio Description equipment should contact the Tattoo Box Office for further details. This is available at select performances only, and all equipment is subject to availability. It is also possible to attend a Touch Tour ahead of the performance. 

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are permitted in the wheelchair accessible seating area at the front of Sections 1-4 or 12-17 only, due to space restrictions and for safety. Please contact the Box Office on +44 (0)131 225 1188 to discuss your requirements and book the correct seating.
