About the Tattoo Performer Community

Our goal is simple: to bring together people with interest, passion, experience, skill, or a drive to learn from some of the best in the world.

By joining this community, you’ll gain access to opportunities such as world-class workshops, masterclasses, and social events. It’s also a place for you to share your own knowledge and expertise.

While this community does not guarantee a place in our Tattoo Show, you will be the first to know when auditions open, and you must be part of this community to apply.

Sign up to the Tattoo Community Newsletter to stay up to date with everything happening in our world and how you can be a part of it.

History of the Tattoo Performers

In the early days of the Tattoo, only British military performers appeared on the Esplanade. Soon after, Overseas Military, Police, and Civilian Pipe Bands joined, giving more people the chance to experience the magical march on over the iconic drawbridge of Edinburgh Castle.

Over time, it became clear that many individuals outside of the traditional military and organisational groups also wanted the opportunity to perform in the Show. In response, three groups began to emerge: Pipes and Drums, Fiddlers and Dancers, each developing their own vibrant community of performers. As these groups grew, the company brought them together under one banner and united them as the group now known as Tattoo Performers.

Since then, we have expanded far beyond the Esplanade, sharing the magic of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo with audiences around the world. While the Esplanade remains at the heart of what we do, we are more active than ever, performing and collaborating internationally in countries such as Japan, America, Australia, China, and many more.
