What are our Tattoo Performers up to?

Our Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Performers are based all over the world. In addition to our August event, they support us on a number of exciting projects throughout the year.

Every year, we recruit a talented team of Pipers, Fiddlers, Drummers and Dancers, who work with us throughout the year as our own in-house Tattoo Performer group. From students to NHS nurses, and steelworkers, our eclectic group have one thing in common, a passion for traditional Scottish culture.

We’re privileged to work alongside them and have recently had the opportunities to work on a number of fantastic projects together.

Last month, a group of dancers and solo piper took to the Royal Mile in Edinburgh to support Virgin Hotel’s grand opening of their new hotel on Victoria Street. The team delighted Richard Branson and visitors to the Royal Mile with their surprise display. Find out more here.

In addition to this, our talented team star in the return of Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars series on BBC. Bringing Gordon back to his Scottish roots, the first episode was filmed with the beautiful backdrop of Glenapp Castle, Ayr which saw 12 food and drink entrepreneurs create outdoor banquets using local ingredients judged by Gordon alongside the Tattoo’s Drummers, Pipers, and Highland Dancers. The first episode, which aired on Thursday 30 March, is available on BBC iPlayer here.

The team are keeping busy. Tartan Week celebrations will take place in America this week, and an all female-contingent of pipers, drummers and dancers are on the ground in New York to support the UK Government’s activity in the Big Apple.

Tartan Week takes place from 10 – 16 April 2023, culminating in a spectacular parade through New York city. Showcasing the best of Scotland, with tartan, Scottie dogs, Highland Dancing and Pipe Bands, Tartan Week celebrates the deep cultural ties between Scotland and the United States.

We’re thrilled to be involved and will be sharing behind the scenes content of our Tartan Week adventures very soon. Please stay tuned!
