The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo’s Sydney DVD takes the top spot in Australia

Following a successful four-show run in Sydney earlier this year, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 'Live from Sydney' 2019 DVD has taken the top spot in the Australian charts as the highest-selling music DVD.

Coming in above Andre Rieu and Queen in this week’s charts, the 100-minute spectacular was filmed at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium and is this week’s number one in the Australian Top 40 Music DVD chart.

The sounds of the Tattoo have also proved popular with Australian audiences as the ‘Live from Sydney’ CD charted at number two in the Classical/Crossover charts, held off the top spot only by the immense talent of Andre Rieu.

In October 2019, the Tattoo marked its return to Australia in great style with it the largest cast ever in its 69-year history. Celebrating Australia and its place in the world, the show drew together over 1,500 performers from across the globe including the Cook Islands, Samoa, the UK, France, Switzerland, Indonesia, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Fiji, and Tonga

The theme - ‘At All Points of the Compass’ - centred around a bold design on the field of play, inspired by Indigenous heritage and art and the constellation of the Southern Cross, used by travellers to navigate in the southern hemisphere. Through their colourful performances, each act took the audience on a full circle around Australia, while celebrating the traditions and cultures of all the participating nations.

Speaking about the success of the show and the DVD, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Chief Executive and Producer, Brigadier David Allfrey said: “Sydney was a truly outstanding city in which to stage this landmark Show for the Tattoo. Everything about this production has been extraordinary and we are absolutely delighted that Australian audiences are continuing to enjoy the spectacular at home.

“We were so very privileged to have call on one of the world’s most iconic venues and work with incredible partners, including the Australian Defence Force, Seven West Media, the Michael Cassel Group, the ABC, and many Australian technical and logistic specialists. We have been overwhelmed by the warm response from the Australian audience.”

Hugh Robertson, manager of ABC Classic and Jazz, added, “We have worked with The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo for many years to release their Edinburgh shows on DVD and CD, but it has been extra special to work with them on their Australian return. The show has been hugely well received by Australian audiences – in both the live performances and the TV broadcast – and now this positive reaction is being reflected in DVD and CD sales.

“We are delighted that sales have been going so well, and as we enter the Christmas and New Year period, we expect these numbers to grow further as Australian audiences continue to take home the Tattoo.”

The Tattoo made its return to Australia with production partners, Seven West Media and Michael Cassel Group, as part of its ambitious Strategy for Growth that includes doubling its turnover to £20 million by 2025 as well as additional signposted overseas tours.
