Our Tattoo Performers Sing in the City

Who doesn’t love to belt out a song?
Our Tattoo performers played alongside the Sing in the City choir over the weekend to celebrate their 15th Anniversary at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall.
Who are Sing in the City?
Sing in the City is more than just a choir. This is an inclusive group of up to 1,000 people from all walks of life, with ages ranging from 18 to 91. They show that music can bring people together, creating community and connection, regardless of who you are.
A huge thank you to Kirsty Baird and Annette Hanley, founders of Sing in the City, for inviting us back on stage to perform Travel These Ways by Karine Polwart and Eagle’s Wing alongside the talented Angus MacPhail from the popular Scottish band Skipinnish.

This vibrant show was a chance for the Tattoo to celebrate this amazing choir and give back to them, after they so kindly supported us at this year’s 75th Anniversary Show, The Heroes Who Made Us, singing those two songs so beautifully each night.

Kirsty Baird, Director of Sing in the City, spoke about the importance of the Tattoo performers taking part in their 15th anniversary celebration:
I have always loved the castle and the Tattoo, and to be part of it was absolutely life-changing, not just for my members but also for myself and Annette.
As we ran about the Royal Mile and our team leaders ushered our members up the stairwells, we realised we were learning new skills and implementing old ones.
The connections we made with the cast (and audience members) were memories to keep forever, and to be partners with the The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo made us incredibly proud.
We pride ourselves on being an inclusive choir, but we also want to be a great choir. The Edinburgh Tattoo trusted us and allowed us to take part in what is surely one of the greatest shows on earth. It felt only right to have them at our 15th Anniversary Show. We thank Alan Lane and the rest of the team for that opportunity.

Our Tattoo performers support, celebrate, and perform all year round at a variety of events, both at home and abroad. These moments allow us to showcase spectacular modern and traditional Scottish music and its power to bring people together and build lasting connections. We’re honored to be part of Sing in the City’s 15th Anniversary celebration.
