Job Purpose Summary

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (REMT) has an ambitious growth strategy with a brand mission to be “The World’s Greatest immersive event(s)”. This strategy will see the organisation evolve from a national event to a global entertainment company. International Tattoos, building customer revenue beyond ticket sales and identifying new profit streams that exploit IP are important elements of the strategy. By maximising revenue, the organisation can maximise the donations it makes to military and arts charities. A creatively effective and functionally efficient marketing and communications plan is central to delivering the broader organisational strategy.

The Senior Marketing & Communications Manager leads the development and delivery of the annual integrated communications plan for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and supports global Tattoo events in international markets.

The role oversees PR, creative development, media, digital and internal communications, underpinned by strategic campaign planning, budget management and performance evaluation. Combining strategic vision with hands-on delivery, the role ensures the communications team delivers world-class campaigns that grow audiences, strengthen brand reputation, and drive commercial impact.

Key Duties

Communications Strategy & Campaign Planning

  • Lead the creation and implementation of the annual integrated communications plan for the Tattoo, delivering domestic campaigns and supporting international Tattoo’s as required
  • Set clear Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for campaigns and communications activity
  • Align the communication plan with organisational strategy, commercial goals and sponsorship objectives

Public Relations, Media & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead media relations and PR strategy execution for the Tattoo
  • Provide clear briefing and direction across the agency network, reviewing performance annually against agreed objectives
  • Oversee press accreditation, media and stakeholder liaison, establishing strong working relationships
  • Support crisis communications and reputation management as required

Digital & Brand Communications

  • Oversee the organisation’s digital communications strategy, including website content, email communication and social media channels, driving efficiency and effectiveness
  • Work with the Digital delivery team to refine and optimise the consumer journey
  • Ensure consistent application of the Tattoo’s brand identity and messaging across all channels
  • Collaborate with creative and production teams to deliver on brand, emotionally charged content

Internal Communications & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and manage an internal communications framework for staff, volunteers, and partners
  • Facilitate clear communication of organisational priorities and campaign updates across all teams
  • Support engagement with key stakeholders, sponsors, and international partners

Budgeting & Performance Evaluation

  • Manage communications budgets and allocate resources efficiently to maximise campaign impact
  • Monitor, measure, and report on campaign performance using quantitative and qualitative metrics
  • Conduct post-campaign evaluation and provide insights to inform future communications strategy

Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire the communications team to deliver high-quality campaigns
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing, Commercial, Production and Business Support teams

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum experience of 5 years within a consumer facing, senior marketing role
  • Proven experience in leading the development and execution of integrated campaigns
  • Collective management of an agency network across all disciplines (PR, Media, Digital)
  • Strong media relations, digital communication and content development experience
  • Track record of planning, budgeting, and evaluating campaigns with measurable outcomes
  • Experience setting and monitoring OKRs or KPIs to assess performance
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership, project management, and stakeholder management abilities
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery in a fast-paced environment

Desirable Criteria

  • Marketing experience developed in a structured, corporate or large-scale organisation, with strong skills in strategic planning, structured campaign management and performance evaluation
