Duration

This is a temporary position from 5 July – 14 July and 1 August – 1 September 2024. Your normal working week is a minimum of 38.5 hours between 18:00-00:00 Monday to Friday and 15:30-00:00 on Saturdays and Friday 9 August, although you may be required to work in excess of this. There will also be two feedback sessions throughout the run to gain your insights into how the role is operating.

Job Purpose Summary

The primary role of the Accessibility Steward is to assist and guide customers with additional access needs with entry to the venue and try to improve their experience through improved welfare provision. The successful candidate will be kind, patient, well-spoken, and have a passion for making events more enjoyable for those with additional needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide wheelchair pushing assistance to guests, and assistance to guests who have additional needs in a friendly and engaging way.
  • Assist in the management of individuals with additional needs in the event of an evacuation.
  • Carry out welfare and accessibility procedures as outlined in the Event Management Plan.
  • Be able to confidently assist customers with varying levels of physical and mental conditions while maintaining a positive demeanour.
  • Engage with Event organisers to provide insightful feedback to improve processes for the future.
  • Treat all guests with dignity and respect.
  • Confident in using radios.
  • Understand the security and safety plans and their role in it.
  • Carry out pre-event security checks to ensure the site is safe prior to occupation.
  • Understand the Health & Safety plan and their role in it.
  • Be familiar with the layout of the site and assist the audience by giving directions to facilities.
  • Investigate any disturbances or incidents, reporting any issues to supervisors.
  • Ensure combustible refuse does not accumulate.
  • Clarity of response responsibilities in the event of an emergency. This includes raising the alarm, immediate actions to be taken and maintaining an awareness of the situational.
  • Communicate with Event Control in the event of an emergency.

Essential Criteria

  • Have experience working with vulnerable individuals, or people with additional needs.
  • Must be able to lift, squat, stoop, push, stand, and bend throughout the course of a shift.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and/or hold 75 pounds or more.
  • Have a professional and caring nature for the challenges faced by our customers with varying levels of physical and mental conditions.
  • Have a positive demeanour – able to remain calm, helpful, and work well in a high pressure, high demand role.
  • Over 18 years of age.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in theatre or other entertainment venues.
  • Experience in a customer care environment or public facing role.
  • Foreign language skills.
  • Experience in healthcare or other carer role.
  • First Aid.
