Stage set for Homecoming-themed Tattoo

Stage set for Homecoming-themed Tattoo

For 63 years, it has been one of the finest exhibitions of pageantry and splendour in the world, a masterpiece of showmanship.

With music, colour and movement at its foundation it commands attention and admiration across the globe.

Each year, some 220,000 people travel from the four corners of the earth to witness a performance of this internationally acclaimed event. A unique spectacle that is also enjoyed by a further 100 million who tune in on worldwide television.

Next summer, from August 1-23, these huge cosmopolitan audiences will see a 1,000-strong cast gather for the 65th Tattoo, which will celebrate ‘Our Home, Friends & Family‘ and once again be staged on a floodlit Edinburgh Castle Esplanade.

Said Tattoo Chief Executive & Producer, Brigadier David Allfrey: “Our production looks set to transport the audience on a magical journey around the Commonwealth: departing from our home in Scotland across the Mediterranean, south over Africa, up through The Far East and India before dropping down to the Antipodes...then homewards across America, pausing to soak up sunshine in the Caribbean. Then, to a glorious party to celebrate our return home. It is also the 350th anniversary of the formation of the Royal Marines and we are privileged to feature all 3 of their extraordinary bands and the flavour and history of the Royal Navy! We are already hugely excited at the prospect of a rich and varied musical programme."

The Show has a very strong international flavour - drawn from the Tattoo family around the World - but also crowds will be wowed by the heart-stopping sound of a 200-strong Massed Pipes & Drums, together with the ever-popular Massed Military Bands and massed Highland Dancers.
