Duration:
This is a temporary position from 6 to 29 August 2026 (with staff training sessions taking place between 27 July to 5 August 2026). There are two types of Steward role available, however flexibility will be required to ensure that both areas are appropriately staffed.
As a Safety Steward, you will work a minimum of 28.5 hours between 19:15–23:30 Monday to Friday and 16:15–23:30 on Saturdays and Friday 28 August 2026, although additional hours may be required. This role is primarily based within The Edinburgh Castle Arena.
As a Security Steward, you will work a minimum of 38.5 hours between 18:00–00:00 Monday to Friday and 15:30–00:00 on Saturdays and Friday 28 August 2026, although additional hours may be required. This role is primarily based within the event area and outside of the ticket barriers at The Edinburgh Castle Arena.
Job Purpose Summary:
Stewards are responsible for the safety, security and service of all customers, staff and performers at the event. The Safety Stewards will operate ticket barrier lanes and provide direction to customers on and underneath the stands. The Security Stewards will manage road closures, vehicle movements and crowd management within the overall event area.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety & Security:
- Be polite, welcoming, friendly and ready to offer assistance to the audience at all times.
- Represent the Tattoo and uphold the events positive impression and core brand values in all activity.
- Provide clear information and directions to the audience.
- Be familiar with the layout of the site and assist the audience by giving information about the available facilities including first aid, toilets, water, welfare and facilities for people with special needs.
- Handle customer queries and resolve minor issues promptly.
- Recognise unsafe crowd conditions to ensure the safe dispersal of audience and the prevention of overcrowding.
- Assist guests with accessibility issues where applicable.
- Understand responsibilities towards the health & safety of all categories of audience (including those with additional needs and children), other staff and themselves.
- Be familiar with the arrangements for evacuating the audience and undertaking specific duties in an emergency.
- Respond to emergencies (such as early stages of a fire), raising the alarm and taking the necessary immediate action.
- Be able to confidently and clearly communicate with customers in the event of an incident.
- Put in place and manage road closures and queue management systems.
- Keep gangways and exits clear at all times.
- Investigate any disturbances or incidents, reporting any issues to supervisors.
- Be familiar with lost property procedures, conditions of entry and code of conduct.
- Sweep of areas for lost property at the end of the evening.
- Look after all documentation and equipment issued to you for the purpose of carrying out your duties including your staff handbook.
Essential Criteria:
- Positive, responsive, flexible attitude.
- Ability to use initiative and follow instruction.
- Experience in a customer service role. · Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Approachable and helpful.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
- Experience working at an event in any capacity.
- Steward experience.
- Foreign language skills.
- First Aid.
