Duration

This is a temporary position from 31 July – 24 August 2024. There are two working patterns available however, some flexibility will be required to ensure that both areas are appropriately staffed.

Working pattern 1 consists of a minimum of 23 hours between 19:30-23:30 Monday to Friday and 16:30-23:30 on Saturdays and Friday 9 August, although you may be required to work in excess of this.

Working pattern 2 consists of a minimum of 38.5 hours between 18:00-00:00 Monday to Friday and 15:30-00:00 on Saturdays and Friday 9 August, although you may be required to work paid in excess of this.

Job Purpose Summary

Stewards are responsible for the safety, security and service of all customers, staff and performers at the event.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Safety & Security

  • Assist with the circulation of customers into and around the venue.
  • Recognise unsafe crowd conditions to ensure the safe dispersal of audience and the prevention of overcrowding.
  • Understand responsibilities towards the health & safety of all categories of audience (including those with additional needs and children), other staff and themselves.
  • Be familiar with the arrangements for evacuating the audience and undertaking specific duties in an emergency.
  • Respond to emergencies (such as early stages of a fire), raising the alarm and taking the necessary immediate action.
  • Be able to confidently and clearly communicate with customers in the event of an incident.
  • Reduce the likelihood and incidence of disorder.
  • Carry out pre and post event safety checks ensuring compliance with safe working procedures.
  • Clear communication with visitors to the event to improve their experience.
  • Monitoring immediate work areas for hazards and reporting as per procedural requirements.
  • Scan and check customer tickets, directing to relevant seating areas.
  • Resolve ticketing issues as they arise.
  • Put in place and manage road closures and queue management systems.
  • Be familiar with the layout of the site and assist the audience by giving information about the available facilities including first aid, toilets, water, welfare and facilities for people with special needs.
  • Provide a high standard of customer care.
  • Keep gangways and exits clear at all times and preventing standing on seats and furniture.
  • Investigate any disturbances or incidents, reporting any issues to supervisors.
  • Ensure combustible refuse does not accumulate.
  • Sweep of areas for lost property at the end of the evening.
  • Be polite, welcoming, and friendly and ready to offer assistance to the audience at all times.
  • Present a positive impression of the company and uphold our values in all activity.
  • Look after all documentation and equipment issued to you for the purpose of carrying out your duties.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working at an event in any capacity.
  • Experience in customer service facing role.
  • Positive, responsive, flexible attitude.
  • Ability to use initiative and follow instruction.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Approachable and helpful.
  • At least 18 years of age in order to comply with licence requirements.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in theatre or other entertainment venues.
  • Steward experience.
  • Foreign language skills.
  • First Aid.
