Job Purpose Summary:
The post holder reports to the Creative Director and is responsible for the production of all The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo performance products, overseeing the Production Teams and Creative process to ensure shows are delivered in line with the Creative Director’s vision.
The Senior Producer is responsible for all producing across the company’s performance activity. They work with the rest of the organisation to ensure that the Company continues to work to the highest standards of performance delivery and audience enjoyment. We are looking for a skilled and energetic producer who will bring drive, innovation, and production knowledge to the Tattoo.
The post holder is also required to support cross-departmental project management, and coordinate exploitation of Production Lessons Learned to inform the development of our performance products, business continuity planning and risk management.

Key Responsibilities:
Producing
- Work with the Creative Director to support the creative teams, and create casting, budget and agreements for each production, event and project ensuring the effective deployment of resources.
- Oversee the scoping, coordination and delivery of all logistics, creative and technical requirements.
- Develop and oversee multiple production teams in support of varying performance product types.
- Work with the Tattoo Performers Producer on planning content and personnel required to deliver performance capability to the company.
- Manage the Edinburgh show and all allocated production budgets to deliver on the Creative Director’s intent and in collaboration with Head of Operations, monitoring all expenditure closely, ensuring that the Tattoo receives best value for money from suppliers and that all expenditure is accurately recorded and justified.
- Support the Tattoo Performers Producer in the enhanced training and development of Tattoo Performers.
- Negotiate, complete deals and work with Legal to issue contracts to creative teams, writers and performers as required.
- Manage and oversee production and technical service contractors in relation to all Tattoo performance products.
- Work collaboratively with the Operations department (Venue, Event and Property) to ensure that the Creative achieves its full potential and output is coordinated.
Operational Management
- Line Manage the Production Team and work closely with the Creative Team members.
- Oversee the creation, updating and monitoring of the Tattoo's annual production plans or ‘road map’, building towards longer planning cycles.
- Develop robust forward planning and project management systems for use across the Tattoo's performance productions, to support efficient and effective delivery.
- Responsible for monitoring and evaluation to ensure the highest of innovative and artistic standards in keeping with the Tattoo's artistic ambitions.
- Contribute to the effective use of the Tattoo's Esplanade venue through close collaboration with the Senior Venue Manager to ensure creative ambition is reflected in the infrastructure plans for the Tattoo's Stands.
- Ensure the monitoring and achievement of the Tattoo’s creative and production key performance indicators.
- Ensure, where agreed, the alignment of Tattoo productions to our Environmental Action Plan and all appropriate policy frameworks, including health and safety.
Partnerships and Relationships
- Develop and sustain a range of partnerships that support the Tattoo's producing, commissioning and programming ambitions, including working to represent the best interests of partners.
- Act as account manager for key creative and production partnerships and commercial contracts including international contracts when required.
- Support external relations, audience development strategies, press and comms and filming of program in close liaison with Head of Marketing and Box Office, and all relevant partners.
Context
- Contribute to the Tattoo's annual financial targets, exceeding where possible.
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Finance Team and maximize effective Orchestral Tax Relief claims and all fundraising opportunities.
- Support and implement the artistic vision led by the Creative Director and ensure that annual programming priorities and KPI’s are achieved.
- Work strategically across departments and managers to help ensure efficiency, excellence and towards the achievement of the core artistic vision.
Essential Criteria:
- This is a role with management responsibility for the Program and Production Events calendar.
- Line Management for which we require at least five years’ equivalent experience in an Events, Theatre Management or Arts Production role.
- Experience leading a high-profile production process.
- A professional and personal commitment to Equality of Opportunity.
- An understanding and experience of major events sector.
- Proven budgeting and financial management skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to adapt communication styles to a range of different audiences and purposes.
- An understanding of large-scale outdoor event production processes.
- Experience of dealing with production/technical service providers and the management of contracts.
- Relevant degree or equivalent.

- A commitment to and understanding of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo’s beneficiaries and stakeholders.
- A passion for large-scale performance.
- Proven experience in a logistics, procurement, or administrative organisation field.
- Experience of managing change portfolios.
- Experience of regional, national and international touring of show productions.
- A can-do attitude and ambitious spirit.
