Sustainability and the Tattoo
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo takes responsibility for its impact on the environment. In addition to our environmental strategy, we aim to purchase goods and services ethically and manage our business in a way which least impacts on the environment, whilst promoting the best interests of our staff and customers.
We ask that you consider Edinburgh’s landscape and wider environment during your visit, by helping us to make choices which are considerate and planned. We encourage you to recycle and re-use where possible.
The esplanade venue of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is part of the Creative Carbon Scotland Green Venue Initiative, a scheme which highlights those Edinburgh Festival venues whose policies develop resource savings.
Specific actions have made a demonstrable difference to our energy usage:
- The installation of waterless urinals at the venue saves 25,000 litres of water over the Tattoo run.
- New efficient lighting technology has enabled The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo to halve its electrical bill.
- The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Social Policy allows opportunity for young men and women from challenging backgrounds, to gain job experience during the event.
