25th Tattoo Photographic Competition
Once again, hundreds of pictures were submitted for the Tattoo’s Photographic Competition, which has been taking place for over a quarter of a century.
The Tattoo was once again thrilled to have such an esteemed judging panel with Roger Jonathan, Former Scotsman Group Picture Editor and Brian Swinburne, Photography Lecturer and former official Tattoo Photographer. Alongside Mark Owens, the Army in Scotland and Tattoo Photographer, the panel reviewed every single entry.
After much deliberation, David Remmen, from Washington State, USA, scooped the £500 first prize with his beautiful image of a drummer from The Citadel Regimental Band from South Carolina, who despite the rain brought their American energy to the Castle Esplanade.
Taking home second place and a cheque for £250 was Edward Cowley, from Brundall in Norfolk with a photograph of the colourful and vibrant Bollywood Love Story.
Third place was awarded to Brian Davidson from Dundee, for his picture of the athletic jump of a member of the Tattoo Highland Dancers.
Inti Herteleer from Belgium, Susanne Rothkamp from Germany and Anne Binner from Perthshire were awarded Highly Commended for their pictures of the Firework Finale, Top Secret Drum Corps and the Band of The Peaople’ Liberation Army respectively.
Florian Doche from Switzerland, Andrew Robertson from Lancaster and Shaun Conway from York all snapped up Commended positions, with Lee Richardson from Spain, Madeleine Hodges from the United States and John Freeman from Sweden rounding out the Top 12 with Finalist places.
