Based in the busy shop at the Tattoo HQ and occasionally the kiosk on Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, you will work closely with the core team selling a wide range of stock. Customer service and attention to detail are key in this role. Minimum 35 hours on a rota (likely to include weekends) between 8am-5pm May-July and 8am-11pm during August. Real living wage of £9/hour. Late May and mid-July starts through to end of August. Potential for a permanent role.

Duration

This is a temporary position from 27 May to 30 August or 22 July to 24 August 2019. From May to July the normal working week is one of 35 hours Monday to Friday (between 0800-1700). However, during the Tattoo period (1-24 August 2019) you may be required to work hours in excess of this on a rota basis. These hours will be arranged between 0800-2300 Monday to Saturday. You will be required to work weekends and evenings as part of your normal working week. Some Sunday work may be required (1000-1700).

Key Duties

• Engage and interact with customers to provide exceptional standards of customer service
• Answer queries regarding the event
• Assist customers with their product selection
• Operate the till system
• Process cash and credit card payments
• Follow daily cash up procedures
• Ensure that the shelves are never empty and replenish stock when required
• Ensure that goods are well displayed and maintain excellent shop floor standards
• Assist with stock deliveries
• Process pre-orders for the annual DVD and CD
• Process and despatch mail and telephone orders for merchandise
• Download, process and despatch online shop orders using NOP commerce software
• Handle the administrative tasks arising from the sale of merchandise
• On a rota basis, sell merchandise in the Tattoo Souvenir Kiosk on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle

Qualification/Experience – Essential

• Previous experience of, and a genuine desire to, work in a fast-paced, customer-facing retail environment
• The ability to engage confidently with customers from around the world
• A flexible approach
• An eye for detail
• The ability to work accurately with figures
• The ability to work under pressure and without supervision
• Excellent computer skills, in particular a working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook and Excel
• A knowledge of the city of Edinburgh
