A fast-paced sales environment based at the kiosk on Edinburgh Castle Esplanade. This role requires you to be enthusiastic and engaging, comfortable with money handling and ready to move high volumes of stock. Minimum 35 hours, between 6pm-midnight Mon-Sat. Real living wage of £9.30/hour. Late July to late August.


This is a temporary position from 6-29 August 2020. Your normal working week is one of 35 hours although you may be required to work hours in excess of this. These hours are arranged between 1800-2330 hours daily Monday to Friday and 1730-0100 hours on Saturday, you will be on duty every performance night.

Training on 27 July 2020, additional shadowing dates will be arranged individually for the week commencing 27 July 2020

Job Purpose Summary

Join the retail team of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo at the heart of the Tattoo venue. Evening Retail (Kiosk) Assistants will work with the Retail Manager/Supervisor to promote sales to the 220,000 visitors to the show. Customer interaction and high standards of service are key.

Key Duties

• Work in a busy, fast-paced retail environment
• Engage and interact with customers to provide exceptional standards of customer service
• Assist customers with their product selection
• Operate the till system
• Process cash and credit card payments
• Follow daily cash up procedures
• Ensure that goods are well displayed and replenished after busy trading periods
• Check and confirm all stock deliveries against delivery notes
• Account for unsold stock

Essential Skills/ Characteristics

• A first-class ambassador for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo
• Excellent customer service skills
• Hardworking, reliable, articulate and numerate, well presented
• Confident communicating with a variety of people from around the world

Essential Qualification/ Experience

• Previous experience of, and a genuine desire to, work in a customer-facing retail environment
• A flexible approach
• An eye for detail
• The ability to work accurately with figures
• The ability to work under pressure and without supervision

Knowledge of the city of Edinburgh would be beneficial.
