Coach Parking Information

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is an outdoor event held on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. The Castle is in the very heart of the city at the top of the Royal Mile.

The Castle and surrounding areas are very popular and very busy tourist spots, especially during the International Festival and the Tattoo.

Special regulations have been made by the police for parking coaches and you are asked to observe these to avoid congestion.

PARKING ARRANGEMENTS

Arrangements have been made to enable spectators TO BE SET DOWN AND PICKED UP AT THE SAME POINT in a city unfamiliar to them.

For Monday to Friday performances at 9.00pm - where parking is available from 7.00pm - and the 7.30 performance on Saturdays - where parking is available from 6.00pm - coaches may be parked on Chambers Street (access from George IV Bridge) and Kings Stables Road, which is accessible via Lothian Road.

In addition to the above coach parking locations, space has also been made available in Castle Terrace and Lauriston Place, which is accessible via Tollcross, for the 10.30pm performance on Saturdays.

It is emphasised that coaches will be parked under the direction of the police and remain in situ until passengers return after the performance.

Tour operators are asked to bring the foregoing to the attention of drivers and couriers and to remind them that if coaches park elsewhere within the city centre, or at the above locations in advance of the times given, enforcement action may be taken by the police.

If in doubt on any matter, please ask the police officers in attendance.

It should be noted that in all cases spectators will have to make the final approach to the Castle Esplanade on foot.

TRAM WORKS

The re-introduction of Edinburgh's trams necessitates large scale infrastructure work and allied road closures, which mainly affect the A8 corridor, Leith Walk and Princes Street.

Please allow extra travelling time and follow the signed diversions. For more information visit www.edinburghtrams.com
