Tattoo Marches To Record Sell-out

Tickets for this year's 24-performance run, from 6-28 August, have now been snapped up some 7 weeks ahead of opening night.

The Tattoo has smashed all its previous records with the 2004 season representing the fastest ever sell-out in the event's 54-year history.

211,027 tickets for the 3-week military showpiece on the Castle Esplanade have now been sold generating some £3.7 million in box office receipts, marking the 55th Tattoo as the most successful ever.

"I'm absolutely thrilled that we have now sold-out for the sixth successive season, but to do so five weeks ahead of last year's record-breaking achievement is a truly fantastic feat," said Tattoo Chief Executive and Producer, Brigadier Melville Jameson earlier today.

"My heartfelt gratitude goes to my small Tattoo team who have made this possible," he continued. "But my thanks must also go to our sponsor partners who have once again helped create the conditions for the Tattoo to flourish."

"We are in particular most grateful to our main sponsor, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Dewar's World of Whisky, Ford UK, Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, Highland Spring and Caledonian Brewery."

The 'sold-out' signs were hoisted at mid-day today though some re-sale tickets may be available for performances until the end of the 2004 run.

Plus a limited number of half-price tickets are to go on sale for the Thursday August 5th preview performance of this year's Tattoo at 10.00am on Monday July 26th from the Tattoo Ticket Sales Office.
