The 220,000 people who are expected to attend this year’s Edinburgh Tattoo (3-25 August) on the Castle Esplanade will witness one of the most unusual performance pieces in the event’s 60 year history.
Sporting his famous red and white hooped jumper, it will be provided by cartoon character and arch mischief-maker, Dennis the Menace in company with comic favourite Minnie the Minx and her unique brand of mayhem.

Her Majesty The Queen has graciously conferred a ‘Royal’ title upon The Edinburgh Military Tattoo, which recognises its six decades of sterling service to culture and entertainment. From January 4th the military spectacle will be named The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Minister for Culture and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop MSP today announced that the Scottish Government and Scottish Enterprise have agreed to help part-fund the Edinburgh Tattoo’s £16 million Castle Esplanade replacement grandstand project to the tune of £3 million.
